Math 8 Notes Find the equation of a line joining (1,6) and (5,10)

Find the equation of a line joining (1,6) and (5,10)
Step 1
Identify Points
( X1 Y1 ) ( X2 ,Y2)
( 1, 6 ) (5 ,10)

Step 2
Find the slope or gradient
m = Y2 -Y1
        X2 – X1

m = 10 - 6
         5 - 1
m = 4
       4
m = 1

Slope =1

Step 3
Find the y intercept - substitute values for either of given points. I will use (1,6). Substitute value for slope (m)

y = mx + b
6 = (1) (1)+ b
6 = 1 + b
5 = b

Step 4
State equation
y = mx + b
y = 1x + 6 or y = x + 6

A 17 Million Digit Prime Number WOW

A new prime number, thought to be the largest ever identified, has been discovered by a professor at the university of Central Missouri. Curtis Cooper used a giant computer network to do the work to find the 17-million digit number - which is a number divisible only by itself and by one.
