8th grade notes - some clues

Packet questions
#38 - solution for a system of equations:
Lesson
The equation y = 10x +50 and y =15x together are called a system of equations. The solution of this system is the ordered pair that is a solution of both equations. (10,150) Graph the line of both equations (find the slope and the y intercept) - where they intersect is the solution to the equation.  These two equations above intersect at (10, 150) that is the solution to the system of equations.

Solve by graphing - one method for solving a system of equtions is to graph the equations on the same coordinate plane.  The corrdinates of the point where the graphs intersect is the solution of the system of equations.
If you graph the two lines and they are parallel to each other, there is no solution to the system of equations.
If you graph the two lines and they have the same graph (on top of each other) there are infinitely many solutions of the system of equations.

FOR QUESTION 38, the solution for the system of equations is where the lines intersect.

#39 A best fit line is a line that is close to most of the data points - draw a straight line from the lowest value to the greatest value.  When using real life data it may not be an exact straight line but approximate a straight line.
Derek draws a line from J to M
Lisa draws a line from points J to K
Which line gets closest to most of the data?

#41 - Rate of Change
Compare slopes
for function #2 it is easiest to get the slope from (1,15) and (2,21) use slope formula or do it right from the table.
for function 3 put the numbers in slope intecept form to find the slope.

#42 - put equations into slope intercept form.  Graph equations and see if the intersect.

#43 Remember vertical angle rule

#47 you are given circumferenc - so find the diameter from circumference formula. find volume using volume of cylinder rule - you must memorize rule for test.

#63 remember soliving equatios with grouping symbols
x=x all numbers are solutions
if your solution ends with something like this - 1/3=1/2  you know that  this can never be true the solution set is null or the empty set.

A 17 Million Digit Prime Number WOW

A new prime number, thought to be the largest ever identified, has been discovered by a professor at the university of Central Missouri. Curtis Cooper used a giant computer network to do the work to find the 17-million digit number - which is a number divisible only by itself and by one.
