Summer Homework Incoming Grade 7

June 15, 2012 Dear Students and Parents, An early welcome to Grade 7. “G is for Googol”, is a math alphabet book. It is an ALA Notable Children’s Book. With each letter of the alphabet, you see how math is all around us. It is both instructive and entertaining. Summer is a great time to increase our literacy in math. With this in mind, I am assigning the book, “G is for Googol, A Math Alphabet Book” written by David M. Schwartz. Students are to write the words in alphabetical order and give a one or two sentence summary of each word. I have also assigned activities on Mathletics. This is a fun way for students to keep up with their math skills. Focus Activity - Fractions, Decimals, Percents Topics Comparing Integers Subtract Like Fractions Dividing Fractions Percents and Decimals Focus Activity - Number Sense Topics Addition Properties Multiplication Properties Arithmetic Laws Solve Proportion Ratio Word Problems Percent of a Number Students can access Mathletics directly at http://mathletics.com or from my Blog http://mathwithmrsd.blogspot.com or from our website which links to my blog (select blogs on left hand side of web page) http://www.visitationacademy.net Students are to bring the” G is for Googol” and completed assignment to school on the first day of math class. Thank you. Have a good summer. Sincerely, Mrs. DeLorenzo
